Color vs Size - Do fish Really Care?

Spoiler alert! I don’t think color matters!
Now that I have your attention, and before you click off the blog, hear me out... I’m as much of a fan, as many of you are, at experimenting to find the exact color combination the fish want on any particular day. That will never change. But logically-speaking, I don’t think color is nearly as important as PROFILE is! As always, it's important to isolate variables when fishing. If one color isn’t working, maybe try another size, or weight. It could be that the action of the lure itself is turning the fish away. But I think changing the profile entirely has the most impact of any.
On days when the bite is very lethargic and slow. Or when I’m getting a lot of short strikes, I opt for a smaller sized bait rather than a big and bulky one. Maybe the fish just don’t have the energy to chase down what they think is a big and challenging meal. Or on the flip side, maybe they are feeling particularly strong, and want to use that energy to “stock up” on food. This especially works well before a storm front, or immediately before spawn.
Also, consider the differences in color. Watermelon green and green pumpkin are nearly identical when not viewed side-by-side. So, I’m not so sure they would have a massive impact on the fish you’d catch. But if you have various sizes of the SAME color. I guarantee you’d be able to notice a difference in bites you get, or don’t!
In summary, I’m not saying you shouldn’t geek out over colors. But maybe just consider a different variable now and then to up your chances of success!
